Canon to Resume Camera Plant Construction in July 2009
June 12, 2009
Canon announced on June 5 that the company will resume the plan of constructing its third digital camera plant in Nagasaki Prefecture, southern Japan, Agence France-Presse reported. The construction of the plant was deferred twice due to a rapid consumer spending slowdown. The plant, which was originally set to begin construction in January 2009, is slated to kick off construction in July 2009 and begin operations in April 2010. The investment in the plant is expected to be scaled down from the originally planned US$180 million, according to the same source. Further details regarding the actual investment value, however, were not yet disclosed.
